My husband and I did a quick, 15-day, relatively unplanned February holiday exploring Tasmania in a campervan.
Our two-week holiday started with early morning flights from Perth to Hobart via Melbourne with Qantas points we had accumulated. We chose Hobart as our starting point purely because we managed to hire our campervan from Tassie Motor Shacks. Be sure to book your campervan in advance, especially if you’re travelling in the summer months, as they are in high demand.
Rob, from Tassie Motor Shacks picked us up from the airport in Hobart, quickly gave us a rundown of the van and we were on our way.
We spent the first two nights at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds in Glenorchy, which accommodates caravanners and RVs.
We paid $29 per night for a powered site — basically a site on the tarmac. A $2 token buys you five minutes of hot water in clean showers and there are good laundry and kitchen facilities too.
Our holiday started with a visit to bi-annual Wooden Boat Festival and the weekly Salamanca Markets. Besides the market, there are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants along the strip too.
